Edward Jenner was a country doctor in the 18th century during an outbreak of smallpox. He had heard stories that nearby farmers were immune to smallpox because the had been infected with cowpox. Jenner had an idea to try to find the cure for smallpox. He infected a yound boy with cowpox from the pus of an open sore. After the boy was recovered he then infected him with smallpox. After waiting a few days Jenners' theory was proven true. The cowpox caused immunity to smallpox. :)
